Jane Austen was an English novelist. She became popular in the 18th century with her six novels, the most famous of which is Pride and Prejudice. Jane’s plots often explored a woman’s dependence on marriage as a means to keep her social standing. Her irony, humor, and social commentary earned her critical acclaim and love from the public.
